Quilt Plano 2011...part 1

Plano, Texas is just around the corner from where I live. One of my brothers lives there. My doctor's office is there. It is a big town with many attractions. Every other year the biggest attrition for me is the quilt show!

Mom and I went last Friday. These are the things that I had to share with my Quilty friends....

I came around a corner and was greater by this handsome fellow. Ferdinand! I had to take him, or rather his picture, home with me. What a beautiful quilt.

I stepped closer to read the blurb from the owner....and discovered that the red ribbon wasn't there by accident. Look at the quilting!

Next up...a portrate quilt. I can remember playing games like the one described here. Imagine being the little girl and seeing yourself in the quilt.

This quilt was made by a friend of mine. I cannot fathom making a quilt of this size from such tiny pieces.

The quilting drew me to the next one...later I noticed the flying geese and thought of my on-line friends.

I am a mother to three boys. I blame my like of youthful designs on them, but the truth is I belong in Neverland. I don't think I am going to grow up any time soon.

Another amazing quilt featuring flying geese...

Oh my gosh...He has scales! Look at the prairie points!!

Did I mention that at heart I am really about 9 years old?

This quilt was made by my friend Kathy Bradbury of Bear Paw Quilting. She is the awesome lady that quilted my presidents quilt.

This one reminded me of the quilt Lynn of Lilysquilts recently showed us.

Wow!

TO BE CONTINUED....

Juxta Posie

She lives in my mind. Juxta Posie is sweet, and sassy; smart, but not pretentious. She sees things a little bit differently than any one else.

"Big Tex Mini Mart," safety recalls on pogo sticks, cats that come when they're called, these are the sorts of things that make her giggle.

Today she noticed this sale on Fabric Storage boxes at The Container Store and had to share it with all of her/my quilty friends.

Have a blessed Sunday!

HELP! I need to make this easy

I own and manage the neighboring/linked in blog, Quilty Friends.  It is a quilt-a-long/block of the month that I wrote for a friend of mine and am sharing with my local quilt guild.

I'm looking for a way to make the patterns easy to print for them.  Yes, I've tried telling them how easy it is to have the posts e-mailed straight to them.  In that scenario all they have to do is print their e-mail.  Unfortunately, life is never that easy.

They have asked for a button/link/gadget that would send the file to their printer.

Have any of you heard of such a thing?

I could sure use some help.

Thank you all for your help with this.  Maria - thanks for the link.  If you want to do the same for your followers grab the html from www.printfriendly.com and past it into a html gadget rather than your templates code.  It works like a charm!

God bless,
Cindy

Sigh...where did my rant go?

I have three more weeks to get my DSQ11 mini made and mailed to my partner.
I've purchased the fabric;
Worked up the pattern;
And today my hand felt so much better that decided to give it a go.
It was all going along swimmingly.
My hand didn't hurt too much and Gilbert was helping me with the finger intense bits of ripping the paper seams out. What a mess it all makes. I almost have four blocks completed.
WHAT? But it lines up perfectly at the edges....no. EEEEK I drew that pattern wrong. CRAP. There is no way that I can salvage these bits by taking the stitching out.
What do you think? Can Sharpie save the day?
Of course, if I have to start over I'll have to go back to the quilt shop.
The thing that I really don't get is why am I not in tears? My hand is on fire and I'm not any closer to having the mini completed....and my kitty just skid across my leg. Ouch. I should be hysterical, but I can't even work myself into a good rant. Hmmmmm.

Home again, home again, jiggity jig

Sigh...
On my own comfy couch, on my own friendly living room, with my dogs curled up on the cold tile floor....there is no place like home.
NOW BACK TO MY STORY....where was I...oh yeah...dinner....orientation...sweet deal
My boy is going to study athletic training and despite his not so great academic standing was referred by his high school Training Coach to the Coach at Howard College, Big Spring.
"The college offers an Associate of science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training to better care for the Howard College athletes, enhance the Outreach Program, and prepare the student athletic trainers for a possible career in athletic training/sports medicine or other allied health field. The student athletic trainers will be eligible to obtain required supervision hours toward taking the state Licensure exam while under the watchful eye of Overton.

Academics are very important. Overton said, “ I believe that the student athletic trainer should, need, and will perform to the best of their ability in the classroom. They need to understand that just an education will not always get them by in today’s world. They need to get the highest education and grades possible so that they can get that good job and keep it.”

Competition is fierce for student athletic training scholarships at four year universities and colleges. Many times academics is the deciding factor as to who receives a scholarship. Student athletic trainers are required to attend classes regularly and perform to the best of their ability in the class room.

Howard College’s athletic training program is an apprenticeship type of learning. Athletic Trainer John Overton believes in and provides a hands-on style of education for his student athletic trainers.

“As soon as we cover a certain area of athletic training, and I am satisfied that they can perform in that area, I let the student handle a lot of the actual activities. I am there for observation and recognition of possible injuries, to provide guidance as needed, to see that the student athletic trainers work for their full potential, and to ensure the athletes are taken care of properly.” Overton explains.

Student athletic trainers enroll in specially designed classes that cover injury prevention, recognition and management of injury prevention, recognition and management of injuries, taping, wrapping, first-aid, rehabilitation, and the business organization of athletic injury management."
This sounds absolutely perfect. I believe that my boy will thrive here. Now...I just need to find a way to get along without him....
