What have I been up to?

I know the month isn't quiite finished yet....but I needed to remind myself that I do indeed do something besides laundry and dishes. So, here is my month in review.

My month "at work" quilting for others....

Swapping with others....

Making quilts....one block at a time

Writing and testing patterns.....

If I get up off of my behind and get to work maybe, I can add a few pictures before the end of the month....but I'm not going to sweat it. After all, there is laundry to do...and plenty of dirty dishes to corral.

What have you been up to?

Ta-done!

It is such a privilege to get to play with new fabric lines. Patterns for the following will be coming soon to a bake shop near you....oh yeah...

"Come to the Dark Side...Or Not" a layer cake quilt featuring Cinnamon & Spice by Blackbird Designs for Moda. The fabric is due out in September 2012. The pattern will be available some time in August 2012.

Custom quilted in Anne Bright's "Drop of Paisley"

"Marmalade Circles", also a layer cake quilt, features Marmalade by Bonnie & Camille for Moda. The fabric is due out in October 2012. I imagine the pattern will be available in September....but I really don't know.

Custom quilted in Anne Bright's "Anne's Favorite"

I am wishing I was compatent to paint the flowers around the edge....I think it would look amazing.

My space....

I still need one more extension cord, but I think I'm done.  Want to see?!

Moving counter clockwise from the top of my stairs....

Sewing station....

Ironing station/stash/office drawers/ thread cart

Supplies and works in progress

The other end of the long arm table

Cutting table, smaller office space

and back to the top of the stairs....
The closed door leads to the laundry.  The red ribbon on the door knob allows the cats to get in and do their business without the dogs following them.  The first open door is a bathroom, the second open door is the "Man cave" a.k.a. Game room.

It may take a little getting used to...but I got rid of 5 bags of trash and swept up the dust bunnies as I went.  My space feels fresh again.

A quick note...

What a weekend.

It started with a lazy Saturday wandering around the local trade days with my dh. We found some great buys, that did not include a puppy, but I sure had fun teasing him about getting one. Then we had lunch together and wandered around one of Texas's great county seat squares. We didn't buy much, but that was 't the point. We simply spent time together.

Saturday evening we spent watching movies and eating fresh kettle corn (purchased at the trade days).

Sunday - church - and then the unexpected.....we started to rearrange my "studio." It isn't done, and you couldn't swing a cat in there right now even if the cat would let you try it. Maybe I will get some pictures for you later today. Here are some quick snaps of the mess progress.

We moved my "stash", office, and ironing station into a new Elfa storage system.
Which allowed us to turn the gammell 90 degrees.

This will allow the dogs to have access to the window without threatening to overturn the iron.

There is still a lot of work to be done to get it liveable again.

All of that topped off with an evening of fine dinning and theater with my guys. Wow! When did they get so grown up? Dh took us all to see "Peter Pan" at the Dallas Summer Musicals in Fair Park. By the end of the day we were all exhausted.

Now...I'm off to a meeting of my Quilt Guild bee.

Talk with you later.

Kudos

Just a note to say...if you use Blogger, and Google, and have an IPhone of Android the new Google app is wonderful.
Google+

Moving photos around used to be a bit of an ordeal....I would put them in on my IPad and then edit the content on my desk top.....not difficult, but not easy either.

Now, the photos go straight from my phone to the Google place and I can pick them up easily.

Best part - it is a free app!

Mr. Postman....I think I love you!....a tiny Yester-year finish

I know it is exceptionally pathetic of me to be so excited when I get packages in the mail.  Despite all of the wonderful things to do in my town, I spend most of my time inside my own four walls.  Yes, I am that dull.

Yesterday I received my prize from the Little Quilt - Sew, Vote, Swap swap on Flickr.
Bet you want to know what is in that package don't you!

Fresh out of the envelope....some yummy charms, a lovely note, and a granny square quilt...

Ironed...and made presentable. I love it!

Made by Deb Brown of Trio Stitch Studio
"Granny Delilah"

The back is just as pretty as the front.
Thank you Deb!

This is the quilt I sent.  I made it from my scrap bin and used it as a learning tool for my 16 year old son.  He wanted to learn how to use my long arm.  He did a great job quilting it for me.  I was hoping that he would consider helping me get through the pile of quilts I have waiting....Halo seems more appealing to him.  (Surprise.)

Star of ......

I've recently joined a new blogger's bee.  It is called Star of Africa.

Star of Africa

17 bloggers from around the globe are participating.  Each month we are to make a block that represents our home and send it off to the star of the month.

This month our blocks are going to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada!  This is my offering.  It is rather plane...but I think it is the perfect thing to give Patti a taste of my home.

The Texas Lone Star is a common site in clothing, architecture, and home decor.  I wasn't born here...but I have to say I'm proud to be here now.  I hand pieced the central star of this block and then added a few borders to set it off.

My turn doesn't come up until April 2013.  (I picked that month to celebrate my birthday!) This is what I am thinking.....I will receive 16 blocks....

What better setting could there be for blocks from around the world?!

Phoenix Quilts

When I was a little girl I lived in a very small community.  My family had lived there for years.  Everyone knew everyone...for good or ill...and we cared about each other.

One summer evening I noticed smoke on the horizon....a lot of smoke....and some licks of orange flame.  There was a large fire somewhere...some one's home was burning.

As a little girl this wrenched my heart.  The thought of someone loosing everything was devastating.

That was a long time ago....but there are still people loosing everything to the ravage of fire.  To combat the horror of it Julie of Have Fun Quilting and her dear husband have started a not for profit organization to provide quilts to the victims.

They are collecting quilts and other goods for the victims of the fires that ravage the southwestern United States every summer.  Their desire is to provide a quilt for each person effected.

Won't you help?

Find out more about the project here.

Welcome....

So if you are thinking...."Welcome? Why is she welcoming me? I've been here for a long time?" ,,,read "Welcome" as "Thank You for sharing the journey with me."

Today marks my third publication as a Moda Bake Shop Chef....and the first as an of shoot of Quilty Friends. How cool is that?!

I'm so glad you found me....

Feel free to sit and browse a bit.

June....where did the time go....

Taking a moment to remind myself that I do indeed get a few things accomplished.

I finished these little bits of bigger projects...

And a few bigger projects as well....

All while working on a few things for someone else....

Not to mention the piles of laundry, a long weekend with my Mom (on a bus tour of seven local quilt shops), and spending time with my guys.

Life is good.
