I've heard it said that the we think the sweetest things are red. Red drinks, red berries, they all get picked over the not so rosy varieties.
Red catches our eyes.
I think maybe that is why we turn to it in the bleak months of winter. Red mittens, red scarves,
red sweaters....
the winter holidays would not be complete without them....without red.
Minick & Simpson did a great job in their latest fabric line for Moda. Midwinter Reds is all of these things - sweet, eye catching, an instant holiday classic.
I am featured on Moda's Bake Shop today with my little quilt, Midwinter Cozy. (I know! How cool is that?!) If you have hopped over from there, welcome. Stick around. Kick the tires. Enjoy yourselves. I'm glad to have you. Even if you are not stopping by from the Bake Shop I'm glad to have you.
In honor of the occasion I am giving away my left over fabric. I have 8 candy charm packs that would love to have a new home. If you would like them....and you know you would...leave a note and tell me about a favorite childhood toy. You have until November 4, at which time I will announce the winner.
Annie is one of mine...she belonged to my mom when she was little. My uncles used to move Annie around while Mom was sleeping. Mom would awake to find her dolly doing all sorts of things. This dolly has a place of honor in my house full of boys...that is why she has a new cuddly quilt to snuggle under!

Cute quilt Cindy.
My favourite childhood toy was a doll too, her name was Sheila and she was 18" tall. My mum knitted lots of clothes for her so I spent a lot of time dressing her :)
Mine was a doll called Rosemary and she had beautiful long shiny blonde hair which I brushed for hours!
My favorite childhood toy was my Winnie-the-Pooh teddy bear. He had a red shirt. I still have him today. He is pprobably 40 years old now! Thank you for an opportunity to win!
i saw the quilt at moda. and knew it was yours, its gorgeous!!! design AND fabric!!! i still have a threadbare koala that my grandmother gave me as a a baby, so i guess he's close to fifty! my girls made a rag doll years ago, she's "Annie" too!
Those reds are lovely and your quilt really captures a sense of winter evenings in front of a burning fire. I really love your other photos too - especially those mittens on sticks!
I had an "angel" pillow from the time I was little till I was a pre-teen. It was taken away from me because it was made of feathers and it turns out I was allergic to it. I was so sad that I never really had another favorite toy! It wasn't red but, wow, that would have been fantastic if it had been! I love your little red quilt...
LUV your mini quilt; such wonderful pictures & you tell a story like we're there, in your home, listening intently to you; thank you for a chance to win your left over fabric....I'd certainly give it a good home.......!
Val - thanks for stopping by. Her favorite toy was an Easy Bake Oven.
Mary Bianchi wants to play too.
Dolls, not so much..I did have a Barbie but I enjoyed designing her apartment more than playing with her. My real love is the easy bake oven, wow did I make some incredible things, and to this day think its the best cooking I've ever done! Cindy thanks for adding me when I didnt know how.
What adorable pictures! Love the mittens
Hi Cindy, sweet doll quilt! I had many dolls that were my favorite as a girl. My mom would let me have her scraps to make clothing and bedding for them. These were my first sewing lesson. Great memories! Thanks for sharing your story.
Congratulations on being featured on Bake Shop again.
Love the story about Annie and your uncles! LOL
Love your Midwinter Reds quilt. My favourite toy was a rag doll I named Debbie after the lady, my mothers friend, who gave her to me. Debbie still lives at Mums house. My kids have loved playing with her when they visit there.
My fav was a blue bear named Pat. He was the best until my older brother "accidentally" tore his head off. Pat was never the same after losing his head even though Mom sewed it back on. Love your quilt as always, you do beautiful work and Love red! Thanks for the give away!
What a wonderful post! Just love the pictures and the doll quilt is darling! I want to enlarge it and have it on my couch! My favorite childhood toy was a swing! Yep, outside, across the street and on the swing all day long. Higher and higher... To this day I find great comfort in swinging... Thanks for the memory! Karen on Keuka
Hopping over from Moda Bake Shop; I love your quilt idea -- perfect for this line of fabrics. A favorite childhood toy was my bicycle. I still ermember sticking my tongue out as I worked hard to ride without training wheels.
Love this line of fabric! My sister and I spent hours and hours playing Barbies... my Mom kept them well dressed with her creations.
Love the Midwinter Reds collection. My favorite toy was the easy bake over. Thanks for the giveaway.
Love this quilt - I love the reds too! My favorite toys as a kid were little people (the choking hazard kind) - particularly the airport, farm, and castle. Boy, did we come up with some convoluted stories to use them all together!
